Think back about some of your happiest moments. These memories will bring us joy forever, or so we would hope. Whether it's from dementia or age-related memory loss, those memories could slip from our gasp without us realizing. This concept uses light as a yearly reminder of important memories, strengthening our neural pathways where the memories lie, and hopefully preserving them for as long as we need them to rely on.
Datelite lights the wall on occasions important to you. The more important the memory, the brighter the light. Turn the dial to reveal the memory if you've forgotten.
Datelite is designed to mimic the form of a clock; it is a calendar after all. Gently pull the lamp counterclockwise with the raised handle, and the memory you've entered will appear on a hidden OLED beneath the brushed metallic surface of the lamp.
This project took over a year to complete. After its initial conception, I purchased a Raspberry Pi and programmed the lamp internals with important days from my sisters life. I built a different body for the lamp, and gave it to her as a gift for Christmas.
